The last time I talked about the Tantric Massage Ritual from Andro Rothe. Today I would like to have a closer look at Joseph Kramer's Taoist Erotic Massage.
Even though the word Taoism and Tantra refer towards some ancient roots in Asia the difference between the two Massages is quite big. On one hand I think it is due to the background of the two people who developed the Massage. But also because the cultural environment in Europe is quite different from the US.
A Tantric Massage has no real objective and it is more about touching the person – but not only the body but also the soul and the heart. Even though it is also split into clear roles of giver and receiver, there is much more sharing of sexual energy. As a giver I work much closer and more with my body. As it is mostly done on a futon this gives much more opportunities in this direction.
The Taoist Erotic Massage has not a real goal either. Therefore it is open to anything what comes up during the massage. It has a goal in that sense that the massage raises the sexual energy of the receiver and this energy is used to get into erotic trance.
The big difference for me is the ending. The Tantric Massage does not have a defined ending. It can be an orgasm, it can be an orgastic state or it can be erotic trance. The Taoist has a clear ending – The Big Draw.
But what is the Big Draw? During the massage the sexual energy is generated with different techniques and strokes. It is raised more and more. At a certain point the receiver will take three deep breaths. With the last inhale he/she will clench all the muscles in the body and hold the breath. Beginning in the pelvic floor, raising the legs and the upper body. The holding of the breath should last for at least 30 seconds, but it is up to the individual to decide on that.
With the release all the muscle relax and the receiver just feels into the body and goes with whatever emotions come up.
The Big Draw is quite a powerful tool. It often takes a while and some practice to experience a certain change. But from my own experience I can only say it is mind-boggling. It is like the whole energy which was flowing through the body is pressed back into the pelvic floor. And with the release a big energy wave comes from deep, deep inside and is flooding the whole body. I had experiences where I had the feeling that my brain is going to be blown out of my body and I was really somewhere out there.
After the Big Draw it is recommended to lay still for at least 10 minutes. An important note is that the giver stops touching with the last inhale before the Big Draw. Nothing from the outside should interfere with that experience. Therefore stillness and holding the space is very important after the Big Draw.
Now that is for me the key difference between the two massages. Furthermore there are some technical aspects. There are no defined rituals as in the Tantric massage. The massage is mostly done on a normal massage table. The giver is dressed.
It starts also with a full-body massage. But also here there is not strict order and the giver is quite free to go with whatever feels okay.
Breathing is the other big difference. Even though the Tantric Massage also contains some breath opener, the focus is clearly not that strong on that part. In the Taoist Erotic Massage it is very important. Because in order to get to an altered state the breath is absolutely necessary. Especially during the genital massage the breath helps to raise and spread the sexual energy throughout the body. There is a charging breath which is used before the Big Draw. Without being charged the Big Draw won't have a big effect.
In both massages I use the genital massage developed by Jospeh Kramer. And I highly recommend learning these techniques and strokes. It is absolutely marvelous and it will give you so much more variety in your love life.

Take care,

I'm a straight atheist woman who always thought of the parallels between the two groups. Finding myself keeping my mouth shut on so many occasions about my lack of belief really made me respect gays who are not shy about who they are. I still don't have the nerve to say it most of the time unless I'm in the company of people I really trust. Anyway, that made me look around the rest of your site and there's great stuff here, thanks!!
